Fire Department

Due to lack of money Pacifica recently could not afford to provide basic fire service to its residents.

The current council proposed a fire assessment tax on the property owners for the privilege of fire protection.

Our firefighter were required to go out on their own time to campaign for the assessment tax to save their jobs and to maintain the current level of fire protection.

Shortly after the passing of the fire assessment Pacifica council put our fire department under the control of Daly City's fire chief Ron Meyers.

The idea was to share fire department administrators to save money.  We currently pay 30% of the total administration cost for Daly City, Pacifica, & Brisbane. Our share is about $800,000, the exact same amount of the cost it would take for Pacifica to have its own Fire chief and administration.

There is no cost savings. There is no current benefit to the arrangement.

The problem is the arrangement is bad for the moral of our fire fighters.

We need to dissolve this failed arrangement now.

We need to run Pacifica fiscally responsible so that it can always be able to afford to provide the basics of fire service.
