Pacifica should take charge of this project. Study our options publicly. We should also invite our neighbors Half Moon Bay, Mira Mar, El Granada, Moss Beach, & Montara to join us. We will have much more success as a united San Mateo County Coast.

I believe there are several phases that can occur over the next few decades. The first phase should be to eliminate the intersection at Vallemar with an overpass.

An overpass will solve the traffic around Vallemar, be a much safer highway, would be far more attractive. The elevated roadway will offer ocean views over the Quarry property.

To do nothing is a poor plan. Our neighbors to the South will be adding 75 homes per year for the next 30 years. That equates to a Quarry development every 4 years. As California continues to grow in population so will the desire for people to enjoy the Pacific Coast Highway. Traffic will continue to grow, to do nothing is irresponsible.

Currently on an average day there are 50,000 cars that pass through the Vallemar intersection.

The existing 4 lane highway with intersection has a capacity of 36,000 cars per day.

A 6 lane highway with intersections will have a capacity of  52,000 cars per day.

A 4 lane highway without intersection will have a capacity of 80,000 cars per day.

We should highly consider eliminating the intersection at Vallemar. We should not widen the highway at this time.
