Abandoned Sewer Plant

Updated Nov 2, 2006

The abandoned sewer plant is a jewel, and I am so glad that we still own this property. I beg that this property never falls into private hands and is fully built out.

Goals I think are important:

  • To be usable and enjoyable to all Pacificans regardless of age or economic status.
  • Enhance, not detract from the magical West Sharp Park community.
  • To be a large part of our City's economic engine
  • A place we can be proud of.
  • To remain in public hands, someday we will probably need to build a desalination plant. near the ocean and away from our sewer treatment plant.

A solution to explore:

Build a City owned and managed mixed use development on the Eastern side near Palmetto with spectacular coastal architecture. The Western side to include a community built playground, a small neighborhood garden, grass area with seating. Possibly a total of 15-25 City owned residential units. Most of these units will be rented at market rate. The ground floor commercial could temporarily house city staff while a solution for City Hall is being carried out. The city owned commercial space can later be revenue generating through rent and sales tax.

A possible evening Yoga session followed by a sunset. Or having coffee in our coastal air while kids enjoy the playground. All while generating revenue for other community services.

These are easily obtainable ideas. This project could easily be financed with local money and local contractors.

Sincerely

David Blackman
